Sandy’s Story

“My name is Sandy and I am a recovering addict. Why Susan B.? When I was out there using drugs, I put three children up for adoption. I had stopped using for several months when I found out I was pregnant again. I didn’t know what to do. I did not know how to be a mom, manage life and raise a kid on my own.

I looked for help—and the name Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center kept popping up. So I called. My lovely daughter was born and I used every excuse in the book not to go into the program. I was so scared. But I knew I had to and I am so very glad I did. Susan B. gave me a chance to grow into a different woman… a mother.

Where am I now? I have been accepted into Nova University and was chosen to receive the Ft. Lauderdale Women’s Council scholarship of the year award. I am proud of what I’ve accomplished and I am proud to be a woman and a mother.
