Critical New Challenges Must Be Met
Historically, the Center was unable to serve many families in need due to lack of space. In addition, the residential program was in an undesirable neighborhood where questionable activities had a detrimental effect on residents whose defenses were already vulnerable. Transportation was also an ongoing issue, with children needing to be transported to childcare, and mothers needing transport to the administrative offices for their individual and group therapy.
The Solution. And The Future.
Due to the closure of the State Hospital grounds and transfer of the property to the City of Pembroke Pines, the Susan B Anthony Recovery Center was offered an opportunity to build its facilities on the grounds of the new Howard Foreman Health campus. With an initial gift of one million dollars from an anonymous donor,
The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center’s Board of Directors entered into an agreement with the City of Pembroke Pines to construct new facilities on a five-acre parcel within the Howard C. Forman Health Campus. These new facilities include three buildings: a two-story 42,175 square foot apartment building, a one-story 13,020 square foot Program and Administration Building, and a one-story 8,072 square foot Early Learning Center.
Your support for these new facilites enables the Center to:
- Increase our capacity from 38 to 64 families in a more home-like setting
- Provide safe areas for the children to attend educational and cultural classes and events; to enjoy quality time for family activities and to play in a harmonious environment with their peers.
- Expand administrative space allowing SBA to establish an educational/vocational suite, additional group therapy and meeting rooms, specialty areas including an art therapy room and a developmental intervention suite with a one-way window for professional observation of parenting services.
- Eliminate transportation difficulties.
- Centralize and improve client programs and support service delivery.
- Ensure a safe and insulated residential location for families enhancing their opportunity for recovery and rehabilitation.
- Open state of the art child care facilities on the campus.
